This competitive award from the AAOCS recognises and encourages original research by student AOCS members. (Membership is free for students, so why haven’t you joined already?)

To be eligible, the applicant must be an AOCS student member (preferably an AAOCS member) who is currently undertaking a PhD with an accredited University, or be within 1-year of receiving their PhD and have original research to present at the 2016 AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo in the USA. The winner(s) will be selected by an expert AAOCS committee, on the basis of the abstract’s scientific quality.

The award provides generous (up to $2,000 AUD) financial support to contribute to the costs of the recipient attending the 107th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo, May 1-4, 2016, Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (registration, travel, accommodation).

Applications close 5th January 2016.

 

AAOCS Student Travel Award Details

AWARD CRITERIA

a)      The aim of this award is to recognise and encourage original research by student AOCS members and support participation in the AOCS meeting in the USA.

b)      The target group is student AOCS members.

c)       A candidate must:

I.            be an AOCS member, who is a PhD candidate or has a PhD that was awarded within the previous twelve months;

II.            have studied in Australia or New Zealand;

III.            have original research to present at the AOCS conference; and

IV.            submit an abstract and attend the 107th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo May 1-4 2016, Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

d)      The award will be assessed on:

I.            research quality of the abstract;

II.            quality of the biography; and

III.            its potential contribution to the improvement of fats and oils science.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

e)      The president (or appointed project officer) will call for applications in early Dec 2015.  Applications for the award must be submitted by 5th January 2016.

f)       The application must be accompanied by:

I.            The checklist (below);

II.            Abstract of the presentation for the AOCS conference (see here for format);

III.            A half-page statement of why the nominated abstract is important in terms of fats and oils research;

IV.            The applicant’s CV (2 pages only); and

V.             A biography of approximately 200 words which may be used in publicity.

All items must be must be combined into ONE PDF file with the title “yoursurname.pdf”

OTHER INFORMATION

  1. The Awards Committee* shall evaluate the applications and submit their ranking to the president who will collate and submit the rank order and will make a recommendation to the AAOCS committee, who will vote on this recommendation.  If there is no suitable submissions the award will not be awarded.
  2. The award prize will include registration for the 107th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo, May 1-4 2016, Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and up to $2000 AUD to contribute to travel and/or accommodation at the conference.
  3. If there is two awards which the committee cannot separate we retain the right to share the award prize across both submissions.

* The Awards Committee for AAOCS Student Travel Award shall consist of AAOCS committee members and/or other invited experts selected by the AAOCS committee.
